Peter Harley, Chairman
Peter Harley has had wide commercial experience, particularly with growth companies, over the past 26 years. For ten years, up until 1996, he was an Executive Director of the transit technology and smart card company, ERG Limited, during a period of rapid expansion. Since leaving ERG, he has consulted to a number of companies advising in areas such as business planning, marketing strategy and acquisition/investment. Mr Harley recently stepped down as Chairman of iiNet Ltd after 9 years during which time the company grew by 10 fold to become the 3rd largest internet service provider in Australia. Mr Harley is Chairman of DTI Ltd, which is a significant shareholder in VOPL. He is also a Director of Perilya Ltd, an ASX 200 company and the owner and operator of the Broken Hill Mine, and a Director of Gunson Resources Ltd.
Neil Goodey, Director
Neil Goodey has over 20 year’s commercial background in the areas of management, finance, strategic planning and corporate transactions. He is an experienced company director with public and private board roles. Neil is co-founder of DTI Group Ltd, an unlisted public company, where he held the capacity of CEO throughout its formative years and remains on the board of the company as Executive Director. Neil is also Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Aeroquest International Ltd, a public mining and resources services company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. He is also co-founder and Executive Chairman of UTS Geophysics, a global airborne geophysical survey company recently acquired by Aeroquest International Ltd.
Conrad Crisafulli, Director
Conrad is currently the Director for IP Commercialisation at Curtin University of Technology. He has extensive experience in all aspects of technology commercialisation through his role as managing director of TechStart Australia Pty Ltd. and its investee companies. Conrad has also had many years of experience in senior management roles in the energy and telecommunications industries. Conrad is a former chairman of Meditech Research Ltd (an Australian listed biotechnology company) and Cool Energy Ltd (a Curtin University spin-out company). He is a director of several start-up technology ventures including Scanalyse Pty Ltd and Sea Gyro Pty Ltd. He has had an involvement in bringing a number of animal and human health technologies to market, including VectoGen Limited (of which he was a director up to the date of its trade sale to the ASX-listed Imugene Ltd). He is a past chairman and a current non-executive director of the Sydney University biotechnology start-up ZingoTX Pty Ltd. Conrad is also a non-executive director of ipernica Ltd (formerly QPSX Ltd), an intellectual property commercialisation company listed on the Australian stock exchange. He was previously Commercial Manager at QPSX Communications Pty Ltd from 1990 to 1998 and was responsible for the commercialisation of the patent portfolio. This included the negotiation and management of licence agreements, joint development and worldwide marketing arrangements and ongoing liaison with telecommunication equipment vendors such as Siemens and Alcatel.
Prof. Svetha Venkatesh, Director
Prof. Svetha Venkatesh is an expert in the field of pattern recognition and Professor in Curtin’s School of Computing. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Roorkee University, India, a Master of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology and a PhD from the University of Western Australia. As a co-inventor, Svetha has been responsible for driving Virtual Observer within Curtin University with a research focus on constructing applied algorithms from the field of pattern recognition for use in process industries. Svetha will continue to provide strategic technical guidance to Virtual Observer for the commercialisation of the technology.
