Conrad Crisafulli, Chairman

Conrad is currently the Director for IP Commercialisation at Curtin University of Technology. He has extensive experience in all aspects of technology commercialisation through his role as managing director of TechStart Australia Pty Ltd. and its investee companies. Conrad has also had many years of experience in senior management roles in the energy and telecommunications industries. Conrad is a former chairman of Meditech Research Ltd (an Australian listed biotechnology company) and Cool Energy Ltd (a Curtin University spin-out company). He is a director of several start-up technology ventures including Scanalyse Pty Ltd and Sea Gyro Pty Ltd. He has had an involvement in bringing a number of animal and human health technologies to market, including VectoGen Limited (of which he was a director up to the date of its trade sale to the ASX-listed Imugene Ltd). He is a past chairman and a current non-executive director of the Sydney University biotechnology start-up ZingoTX Pty Ltd. Conrad is also a non-executive director of ipernica Ltd (formerly QPSX Ltd), an intellectual property commercialisation company listed on the Australian stock exchange. He was previously Commercial Manager at QPSX Communications Pty Ltd from 1990 to 1998 and was responsible for the commercialisation of the patent portfolio. This included the negotiation and management of licence agreements, joint development and worldwide marketing arrangements and ongoing liaison with telecommunication equipment vendors such as Siemens and Alcatel.


Neil Goodey, Director

Neil has over 20 years management and corporate experience in running mining services, geoscience and technology based companies. Neil was co-founder of UTS Geophysics, a global provider of airborne geophysical surveys, serving as Managing Director from 1991 through 2001, Executive Chairman from 2001 to 2007, and as COO and director of Toronto listed Aeroquest International from 2007 to 2009.  Neil was co-founder of DTI Group Ltd, a public transit technology provider, serving as CEO from 2001 through 2007, and continuing as executive director. Neil is a recipient of the Graham Sands Award for his work in the geosciences industry and is a co-founder and director of Corescan.

Prof. Svetha Venkatesh, Director

Prof. Svetha Venkatesh is an expert in the field of pattern recognition and Professor in Curtin’s School of Computing. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Roorkee University, India, a Master of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology and a PhD from the University of Western Australia. As a co-inventor, Svetha has been responsible for driving Virtual Observer within Curtin University with a research focus on constructing applied algorithms from the field of pattern recognition for use in process industries. Svetha will continue to provide strategic technical guidance to Virtual Observer for the commercialisation of the technology.

Rohan McDougall - Director

Rohan McDougall is the Director for IP Commercialisation at Curtin University. Rohan most recently spent 8 years as the Chief Operating Officer at Biosignal, a publicly listed biotech company, where he was responsible for business development, project management and general operations activities. He has over seventeen years experience in commercialisation of new technologies. This includes being integrally involved in the establishment of number of companies in the biotechnology area, including Biosignal. Prior to his role with Biosignal, Rohan worked for 10 years in commercialisation of technology out of UNSW as a Business Development Manager at Unisearch Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree, an MBA from the AGSM and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Richard Johnson - Director 

Richard is a qualified engineer and has over 16 years experience in the transit technology industry. Richard joined DTI in 2005 as General Manager and commenced the role as Chief Executive Officer in October 2006. Prior to joining DTI, he held senior group manager positions within ERG Limited which developed, supplied, and managed integrated fare collection systems for the transit industry globally. Richard’s qualifications include a B.Sc (Eng), M.Eng.St., and an MBA.
