Crime Scene

The Scenario

A young lady was attacked while walking along Highgate St, Wentworthville. The approximate location was at the cross roads of Cribb and Highgate Streets. To date, no members of the public have come forward with information. The approximate time of the incident was yesterday, 24th January around 4:00pm.

The Need

Police are urgently compiling information and believe there could be video footage which may identify the attackers or obtain details (number plates) of potential witnesses who may have seen the attackers while driving past the scene.

The Solution

The Police log into Virtual Observer from their computer and select a radius of three blocks around the crime scene for the period 2pm to 5pm on 24th January. The VO report instantly indicates that three buses and four taxis passed through this space during that timeframe with a total of 12 minutes of relevant video. Constable Jones downloads the images and identifies a white sedan visiting the area several times and parking near the crime scene and leaving soon after the incident. The number plate is identified which ultimately leads to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Asset And Event Monitoring

The Scenario

A conference is being held at the Oceania Hotel in the CBD. Many dignitaries are attending and are expected to arrive at 11:00am on the 18th March.

The Need

The Federal Police will be on site and request to have live access to all possible video from CCTV. The Federal Police have also logged onto VO and have selected live video streaming from all roaming vehicles that pass through the defined area from 6am to noon.

The Solution

The scene is monitored remotely via the control room in real time. During the period, there were 50 vehicles that moved through the area and streamed live footage to the control room. Using the mobile footage, the officer identified a vehicle parked for an unusually extended period of time that was outside the fixed CCTV viewing range. He decided to investigate when the vehicle had been abandoned. He circled the location on the map and selected a timeframe for three hours earlier. VO reported that there were three roaming vehicles that passed the area and he then requested the video for viewing. From the video he noted that the suspect vehicle was abandoned at approximately 4am by a tall, slim, Caucasian male who walked away across the adjacent parkland around that time. He alerted ground staff to attend the vehicle and to investigate the possibility of it containing explosives.

Reconnaissance

The Scenario

At 3pm a significant disturbance at a private residence has been alerted to the patrolling police who have little information of the area.

The Need

While driving to the location the officers desire a street-level view of the area to allow them to prepare the best approach and exit options.

The Solution

The officers request the control room to place a VO over the location to view the area. They are notified that there is likely to be significant congestion caused by a nearby high school and subsequently decide to access the area from the rear laneway to enable a faster exit should a pursuit eventuate.
